Funding Information: Residency

Do you qualify?

To be eligible to apply for some funding you must meet certain residency conditions. These are complicated, and you are strongly advised you to contact your local college (for Further Education courses) or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) (for Higher Education courses) if you are in any doubt about your residency status. Contact details for Colleges and SAAS are available on the useful contacts page.

Generally, the residency requirements are as follows:

(i) You must be ordinarily resident in Scotland on the first day of the first academic year of the course.

(ii) UK nationals must also have been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for the three-year period immediately before the start of the course.

There are different rules for asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers and EU nationals.

A more detailed overview of residency issues can be reviewed or downloaded from http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2006/08/18104327/0
