Alan Nicol decided to return to learning despite a range of health issues and mobility problems.
He hoped to gain qualifications and social skills from his time at Abbeytext in Arbroath.
When he first started at the learning centre, Alan avoided group situations but gradually started using the common room, chatting to other people and attending social events.
He has updated his CV with new qualifications, enrolled on a college course and works on the centre’s reception for a half day each week.
Alan has been asked to tutor an IT group for clients aged 50+ because of his clear, calm and patient manner.
Alan is the learndirect scotland Personal Achiever of the Year 2006.
